Southern California PI Kinsey Millhone, while shopping spots a woman who is shoplifting and alerts the store. This simple act leads to uncovering a major crime ring and a related murder. Note: while readable Grafton fluffs the book with…

I agree with jimg2000 comment. I'm saddened by the death of Sue Grafton. This book was okay but I agree with many other reviewers that it gets bogged down in too many descriptions of getting in and out of the car, driving down the…

Lots of characters in this. I like the way she brings them all together. Once I start these books, I just can't seem to put them down. I like the way she incorporates humor into her books and in-depth descriptions of her surroundings and…

BOTTOM-LINE: More characters, less Kinsey, but it works. . PLOT OR PREMISE: Fantastic opening -- a gambler who hits a run of bad luck, and a loan shark who collects from his losing client pretty aggressively. Oh, and Kinsey apparently…

Updated on Jan 30, 2018 with quotes to remember Kinsey Millhone: Sue Taylor Grafton (April 24, 1940 – December 28, 2017) Story was told when the private detective was 38 years old that allowed the old school gum-shoe investigation of…

For some reason which is beyond me Kinsey gets involved emotionally with a married ex-con who really just wants to take advantage of her. I guess it is a lack of a love life that drives her to take on PINKY, a three time loser, try to help…

A patron review from the Adult Summer Reading Game: If you like the Sue Grafton mysteries--you'll love this book. All of the old familiar characters are there--plus the new ones needed for this mystery. Lots of excitement--but all ends…

Grafton started her Kinsey Millhone mystery series in 1982 with A is for Alibi; she's now up to V is for Vengeance. Grafton's plots and characters have remained consistently good over 30 years. Various plot points have stayed with me…

I am nervous about the ending of this series. I will really miss Kinsey Millhone. So, I'm trying to treasure every single page left in the series. But the premise of this book is that "shoplifting is bad" and I have a hard time caring…

I recently 'discovered' Sue Grafton and I'm hooked! I've read the whole alphabet series and can't wait for the next book. Kinsey Millhone is a fun, no-nonsense gal!

Good, but more of a story than a mystery. not my favorite in the series, but not the worst one, either.

Kinsey turns in a shoplifter while buying new ?undies? on sale and so begins her twenty-second story on her nearly 38th birthday. It?s a tangled web of plots involving stolen goods, the Mob, unexplained suicides, betrayal, and revenge with…

Another good book in the alphabet series. A bit predictable, but still enjoyable. Story moved along at nice pace.

I have read all the previous books int he Millhone series but this one dragged for me. I had to really push to read it all and would not have finished it if I was not such a fan of the Kinsey character.

Sue Grafton's books just keep getting better and better. Her latest book (V is For Vengeance) has a great plot and characters that we care about. (It also makes me realize how drastically technology has changed since the 1980s.) I look…

437 pages to tell a tale that could have been handled in 137. It's stuffed full of irrelevancies. Is Sue Grafton paid by the word?

I was surprised how dated Grafton's Kinsey detective stories could become for me. This story, peppered with Kinsey's neighbors and friends in their 80's and their sister in a nursing home needing their support coupled with the 1980's lack…

Amusing! Grafton invented the formula. Likable Kinsey Milhone, private eye. Mildly dated but entertaining as ever - every book in the series.

This had to be the most boring title in the series. Repetitive and took far too long to get anywhere. Hope she finishes with more of a bang in her last four!

Once you get past the rather slow beginning the plot strands pull you in and become completely engrossing. Some dialogue falls flat and, yes, it could have been benefited from some incisions, but Grafton weaves the strands together…
