scondrels etc. i highly recommended. steve martin never dissapoints.great movie.
This is why sequels work; they keep all the original cast members and put them in a great film that seems to continue the story. If hearing that your daughter is suddenly getting married isn't enough, wait till George Banks finds out he's going to be a grandfather! And to top that off comes the unexpected news that he and his wife are expecting! Very funny movie (again with some scenes that drag), and very entertaining. I like how they keep some of the aspects of the original and added them to the sequel with a few minor changes.
I saw this version before I even knew about the Spencer Tracy version, so I'm kind of fond of this one. Steve Martin is perfect in the role of the father who is reluctantly losing his daughter to a man he hardly knows. Kimberly Williams was a perfect choice to play Annie Banks, the blushing bride. I believe this was her first movie role and she was just terrific! Very funny film, and although a few scenes are a big dragged out, it works well! I even used music from this movie in my wedding!
George Banks' idyllic life is turned upside down when his oldest daughter Annie announces her engagement to Bryan MacKenzie after a very short courtship. While trying to cope with the wedding plans and pending changes, George nearly loses his mind as he imagines losing his little girl.
A remake of the classic 1950 film, this remake is family friendly with great mass appeal.
The 1995 sequel revisits the Banks family and finds patriarch George faces two major and unexpected surprises from the stork, putting a quick end to his relaxing retirement plans with no kids in the house.
This is a good movie, and Steve Martin adds to the enjoyment. It is a remake of the 1950 Vincente Minnelli film of the same title, which is also available from Hennepin County Library. I have not seen the original. The 1991 film has at least one connection to Minnesota: Peter Michael Goetz, who plays the groom's father, has performed in numerous productions at the Guthrie Theater.
One never tires of great comedy!
I grew up with this movie, even though it's something way before my time. I've seen it a million times, yet not the first one. Anyway, it's one of my childhood movies. Good for the family....Steve Martin doesn't have kids???
Moving and funny. I love these films. They're sweet and somewhat realistic slice-of-life films. I love the sequel just as much as the original. It doesn't feel like a rehash.
This film has such nostalgia value for me. I can't help but love it. Films like this one (a lot of them by Steve Martin, actually) warm my heart and remind me of my childhood, as well as having a great deal of comedy for newcomers. I adore this film! (Also, Diane Keaton is exceptional as always.)
How does Steve Martin, a man without children, end up making such nice family movies?
While this is far from being one of my favorites it is still a decent movie, the script is well put together and the acting is good for this type of film. I would recommend this to fans of off beat and darker comedies.
