Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, who studied law in college, not only became one of history's most well-known authors, but also studied geology, botany, and anatomy during his career as a lawyer and writer. He is best known for his play Faust, but he also wrote fiction such as Hermann and Dorothea as well as numerous poems. He was invited to be a court writer by Count Karl August at Weimer in 1775, writing plays and operettas for the nobility, all while continuing studies in other fields.

A rather concise biography, with relatively little about the writings themselves; neglected to mention his toy playhouse when he was a child (which he himself considered to the most important event to influence him to become a writer). The audio for the narration is poor: I had to blast it in order to hear what was being said.

How fascinating that Goethe and Napolean actually met. I wonder what would have happened if they had actually collaborated to a Christian end. Perhaps it would have been as if Achilles and Hector had formed an alliance. Of course Achilles and Hector could not have done this on a Christian basis, since they lived before Christ. I make the comparison based on the personality similarities: Goethe was like the Achilles of modern literature; Napolean was like the Hector of modern warfare.
