In the wake of the collapse of Lehmann Brothers and with Britain on the brink of economic ruin, a young English couple takes a tennis vacation in Antigua. There they meet Dima, a Russian who styles himself the world's number one money launderer, who wants, among other things, a game of tennis. Back in London, the couple is subjected to an all-night interrogation by the British Secret Service, which also needs their help. Their acquiescence will lead them on a precarious journey through Paris to a safe house in Switzerland, helpless pawns in a game of nations that reveals the unholy alliances between the Russian mafia, the City of London, the government and the competing factions of the British Secret Service.

I'd like to say it drew me in, it didn't despite author's esteemed reputation & the reading by Robin Sachs.

An exciting, intelligent entertaining work. It starts to get really complicated by chapter four. My gizmo intermittently and inexplicably turned off ("reset"), with this frustrating quality increasing in frequency as the work progressed, but thankfully, if belatedly, the last chapter was uninterrupted. The ending was sad (I was rooting for the plan to succeed). It also spurred enough interest to look into the 'vor' and the 'vori code'.

Loved it. Drew me in and kept me there. What an ending.

This story is too boring for this reader and the characters are so uninteresting that you don't care what happens to them. 3 of 10 stars
