By focusing on Klaus Barbie, this film takes an exhausting look at the Holocaust and German and French complicity, as well as the CIA's role in using former Nazis to pursue their own anti-Communist goals following World War II. Also surprising is the humor and playfulness exhibited in parts of the film as Marcel Ophuls comes of as a pre-Michael Moore.
