This is a terribly uneven mystery novel. While the plot is quite good, and the characters engaging, the writing is pedestrian and as readers we spend too much time inside Jack Colby's brain as he entertains sexual fantasies about the other characters, rather than searching for clues or seeing what is going on around Colby and the other main characters. The author also has trouble dropping appropriate clues, so at the end the reader is as gobsmacked as the lead character by the solution to the mystery.
