Amazing how a dog can respond towards a loving owner and turn out to be a hero. Good heartwarming movie for the family.

This is a Halmark movie and so is great for family viewing (with young children). It takes place on a farm in rural America (and the rural scenery is quite lovely). And of course there is a happy ending,

This Canadian made-for-tv flick was a bit of a yawner for me I'm afraid. Filmed in Hamilton & the nature trails of the Golden Horseshoe - it tries to capture a US sheep farm setting - but the real shooting locale - and the appearance of B.C.'s Natasha Henstridge, and notable Ottawa actor Lawrence Dane as a sometimes crotchety ol' pop was enough to fulfill the "Canuck content" required to get the generous Canadian tax write-offs. As if that wasn't enough of a financial incentive, the shameless promotion of a certain dog food manufacturer in the film almost made me puke - and also to wonder - just how low notable actors Harry Hamlin & Natasha Henstridge will stoop to these days to make a movie?! I also thought the youthful star of the film, Lucky, was "wrong" for the part. Honestly, if you're one of the other 24 poor saps who are in line for this - watch how unmanageable the dog is with any of the actors trying to keep it in line! Clearly, the other dog that actually won the competition, was the true champion and deserved the accolades that Lucky gets in the end, for a completely different reason. If you've got little kids, however, they might like this film & the timeless messages it's constructed around: Inspiration can come from the darnedest things; and while waiting to be inspired, face life's realities - and your dreams - head-on!
