a good book to read in stages as the later chapters seemed a bit repetitive

A lovely, respectful & very interesting voyage through the streets of Paris....equal billing is given to the grand (Les Halles, eg.) and the minute (a French dog's life). I did find, though, that for maximum enjoyment, I needed my own personal copy of One Thousand Buildings of Paris & other photo rich sources beside me to fully engage with Downie's descriptions. Anyone who adores the City of Light will appreciate this read, winding as it does, along the Seine. I could have used a bit more food & a bit less fact (more bistro & less building), but that is a very personal preference.
