I am writing this review a couple months after I read the book and I don't seem to have remembered much about the story. I think I might have read a few too many Roman books in a row and they've all started to blend.
I did miss having Pantera as the narrator, seeing him from anothers perspective was interesting but I liked him driving the narrative instead.
Unfortunately for me, books two and three never did live up to the wonderful first volume but a good trilogy overall.

Good writing, the kind that "makes you feel you were there" texture and detail. You really get the feeling of what it would be like to be a Roman legionaire, the grit and the glory. Story drags a bit in the middle but the ending is superb,

Another fascinating glimpse of the early days of Christianity from master storyteller Manda Scott!
