A wonderful little movie for type gooks everywhere!

This wonderful bold facetype is the focus of this wonderful documentary. Its popularity is due to the widely used lettering in the New York Transit System. - I remember the 1972 Subway map (with the BROWN water) that had all the lines, including the now non - exsistent Culver Shuttle.

Great documentary for designers and type lovers. Detailed history of the font and good interviews with design legends and leaders. Be sure to watch the bonus interviews (95 min), which were interesting and funny.

An enjoyable film for any designer or those involved in the print industry, and perhaps even marketing/PR folks could enjoy it.

As someone who's used Helvetica a lot (and not always happily) this movie was an interesting look on the questions we wonder about but never ask: where did the font come from? How do fonts become so popular? How much work is put into designing one? Some great typography masters in this film too. It's a tribute to the artistic generation before computers were around.

What's really noticeable after watching the movie is how easily you'll recognize Helvetica around you.
