A staging of Chekhov's Uncle Vanya in a crumbling theater on 42nd Street. The acting is great and the story still feels fresh and relevant.

This is a riveting film of the process of a troupe of actors working with a director they revere over a period of years - getting to know each other, their role, a play. The story drew me in - not to a long past Russian country estate so much as a vacant crumbling magnificent 1990's Broadway theater - not into the lives of Chekhov's characters, but into a circle of actors whose faces and mannerisms are familiar, if not their names. I am inspired to see a stage production of Uncle Vanya.

This DVD was so-so! It is more like a documentary instead of a play. Good for all ages. Not too violent. No sex scenes. Well acted! Semi-Strong story! I was a little bored.

This film looks at a group of actors as they come together to rehears a play. It blends seamlessly from their contemporary lives into the play and gives you a glimpse at the dramatic process.
A stripped down film, like Dogville - minimal set, no costumes, just great actors and a great script.

Charming staging of the Mamet adapation.
