I had read his other book on individuals who endured and survived some trying circumstances. With that one so well written I thought I 'ot to check out his newer book and it did not dissappoint. While his last book focused on why some individuals survived extreme circumstances, this book looks into what those individuals endure for the rest of their lives due to trauma. The stories were woven together purposefully and clearly to convey the science and reasoning of individuals coping and living with traumatic life events, whether that is surviving an intense situation, relationship, violence or otherwise.
I'd highly recommend this book if you care to understand how most of the world lives with and deals with trauma in their life. A good read to prepare yourself for life's unexpected events.

Gonzales profiles a number of people who survived harrowing experiences (attacks by wild animals, domestic violence, horrific injuries in war), and talks to these people about their experiences while healing and moving ahead in their lives. The author seamlessly interweaves what brain scientists and psychologists can tell us about the difficulties and successful strategies. At first I thought this book was going to be somewhat voyeuristic, looking into some of the most intense and terrible moments of people's lives, but Gonzales respects and admires their resiliency and courage- and lets the individuals speak for themselves.

Pretty good, if you are interested in how people survive the after-efects of severe trauma.
