Eddie Boyd has returned from WWII and is dismayed by public indifference towards veterans and humiliated by his inability to fulfill his dream of being a Hollywood star. Moreover, his veteran status has done nothing to help him provide for his children and wife Doreen. Eddie becomes desperate and starts to rob banks. This is a simple but profound movie - made me think.

Some interesting aspects, but the overall direction of this film is confused, and there is little or no focus. Scenes are presented, and the audience is left to make of it what they will.

Good movie. I found it very engaging, especially as it was based on a true Canadian story. Well acted by Scott Speedman.

Fair – Citizen Gangster (2011) 105 min. The story of small time bank robber (Edwin Boyd) here in the Toronto area of the 1940’s doesn’t pack the punch expected with such a colorful “occupation”. Though Edwin Boyd became a folk hero in Canada, the film doesn’t address this unexpected public reaction, which could’ve given the film a little bit of a lift. Not for everyone's taste.

An absorbing movie, well-shot and acted. Scott Speedman was very good as Boyd, and most of the rest of the cast did an efficient job too, though Kelly Reilly as Boyd's wife Doreen was good at being cute and vulnerable (which is her forte) but her acting was flat otherwise. Brian Cox, as Boyd's dad, brilliant as always, making the most of a small role.
