Though many actresses have played AK, only Sophie Marceau combines maturity with the youthful coquettishness and passion required of the role. She is well matched in Sean Bean, whose experience with the "Sharpe" series lends him the requisite military bearing to make a convincing Vronsky; and Alfred Molina as a pensive Lenin. Handsomely filmed, with a screenplay that does justice to the novel.
