A ballad of generations of a family with Jewish background from Galicia and their run through Vienna, Prague, the Soviet Union and East Germany. They were everywhere in the wrong place at the wrong time. A short history of the life and death of a writer and her idealism that leads from one hell to another, from fascism to communism. No matter what ideology prevails, power intimidates and eliminates. Chess game or roulette is played with lives in the Soviet era. The book ends with lies or untold truths.

An interesting, unsentimental and thought-provoking novel about 20th century Europe.
