"Up in the garden, the world is full of green--leaves and sprouts, growing vegetables, ripening fruit. But down in the dirt there is a busy world of earthworms digging, snakes hunting, skunks burrowing, and all the other animals that make a garden their home. In this exuberant book, discover the wonder and activity that lie hidden between the stalks, under the shade of leaves... and down in the dirt."-- Provided by publisher.

Loved everything about this book! Plenty of illustrations to keep little ones entertained, lots of good information to keep pre-readers and early readers interested, and an all around great book for all ages wanting to learn about what happens in the garden year-round. My ONLY criticism, is that in the back with the extra photos and explanations of things, the illustration used for honey and bumble bees is clearly a wasp. It's obviously not a make-or-break for this book, because it's lovely, but I feel like that is a huge oversight.

I bought the book anyways!! You will not be disappointed :)

I love the illustrations by Christopher Silas Neal in this precious book about a young girl helping her Nana with all the seasonal chores in the garden. Lovely book for a quiet story time.

Gardening season is fast upon us. What I loved most about this picture book is the way it shows the interconnections between all of creation: from the plants, bees, and birds to the pillbugs, earthworms, and skunks and how all have their role to play. It would also be a good way to help educate little ones (and adults!) who are a little squeamish about insects, spiders, and snakes in their yards.

Good book to read to a toddler because of all the plants, animals , and bugs to look at!

Hipster illustrations and above average gardening vocabulary make this a special lap-sit book. Neat glossary at the end!
Check out Over and Under the Snow as well, another gorgeous creation by this author/illustrator team. THEN check out Over and Under the Pond.
