Joe Pickett's old friend Nate Romanowski is off the grid, recuperating from wounds and lying low while the FBI search for him. But they are not the only ones looking for him and Nate finds himself confronting an elite team of special forces soldiers. They're not there to take him in - they say - but to make a deal. They need his help destroying a domestic terror cell in Wyoming's Red Desert, and in return they'll make Nate's criminal record disappear. But Joe's not sure they can be trusted. And they can't. They have a very different plan in mind, and it just may be something that takes them all down--Nate and Joe included.

Usually just another title in a lengthy book series doesn't warrant much in the way of commentary. But, occasionally, tenuous plausibility renders an exception. A man-eating grizzly, gyrfalcons, a flamboyant, though gullible, leader with a cause, starry-eyed millennial followers, deep-state surveillance, jihadis in the Red Desert of Wyoming … an unexpectedly nifty little heads-up parable of the here and now. Off the Grid makes unpalatable reading for those crusaders who see disarming a law-abiding public as the road to salvation.

Very intriguing. Always some action going on with the characters, not a slow read. Enjoyed the book.

CJ Box novels that include Nate R. are the best :)

Idealism highjacked by evil. I enjoyed this book much more than the previous one (Endangered). Interesting plot, plausible if you squeeze your eyes closed a little, and interesting characters.

This whole series is excellent! Joe Pickett and his friend Nate Romanowski are terrific characters. I like these books because they are about people who lead very different lives from mine (I am sure our political views are very different), and I really like and respect them. The plots are clever and interesting, and the characters are engaging and moral. Terrorism has been a factor in prior books as well. I recommend this whole series, read in order, as the characters keep developing.

Really liked getting some back story on Nate. Great read!

I have read all of his books up date. However, he is like many of my most read authors, who try and update their writings to current times, and loose the concept of why were reading them in the first place.

There are to many "hard to believe" sub plots and coincidences in the book

His series started failing apart with his adopted daughter running of with a loser cowboy.

and now:
Facebook? twitter? anti terrorist?, his daughter going on a "camping trip" hosted by terrorists?

give me a break.. what happened to the game warden character?

As a fan of C.J. Box, I think this may be his best book. Considerable action, great story line, everything.

Finished it in one day. Haven't read a book by Box that wasn't a page turner
