None of the songs struck me as especially good or bad; even after re-listening to it, the result was... meh. I might say track 5 was a bit to be preferred. On the whole, the harshness and slow-ish tempo of most of the songs made the album un-enjoyable.
I haven't enjoyed much of DM since Songs of Faith and Devotion. If I remember correct the album prior to this was all depressing with no rhythm. I gave this one a spin after expecting the same and was surprised to find drum sounds again! Some songs even sounding like they could be from Violator. Good for you DM.
Personally, 2016, was a music dry spell. I was hard pressed to find even 10 albums that blew my hair back, however, synth giants Depeche Mode might be saving 2017. Spirit is an unapologetic, politically themed outlet with a dystopian malaise and dance beat hooks. For a fourteenth album, this band is still very much relevant and everyone should get into the Spirit!
