I agree, it is an interesting book, I have heard about the American Virgin Islands all my life, but never had in depth knowledge of them. I also have a church friend from the Marshall

This was a good bit of information that I had not thought to ask about and found really interesting. I wish I could take my own tour. I would want to have things "settled" if I lived in a territory, it seems weird to be a part of and yet not fully a part of the U.S.A. for over 100 years.
I recommend this book.

This was a very interesting and informative book. Like most Americans I know very little of our territories. This book presents a short background on how they became part of the US as well as interviews with some of the residents discussing problems of their area.
I would recommend this to anyone.

Minneapolis travel writer Mack has always fascinated me but I've never ready anything by him. I have traveled to Puerto Rico and have witnessed the strange world that isn't quite American or foreign. Mack has an accessible writing style and explores our colonial legacy even as most Americans would deny we have been colonizers in the traditional sense of the term. Interesting stories and insights about parts of the world that are American but don't have full representation.
