Aster Amirpour has been charged with first-degree murder regarding Hollywood’s starlet Madison Brooks’s disappearance, and is in the largest predicament of her life. Layla Harrison is supporting Aster’s innocence and is making a way of showing it through her daily blogs on celebrity gossip. Tommy Philips wants nothing to do with the whole Madison Brooks situation, but can't get over the fact that he was the last known person to see her before she disappeared. The three adults are on a private investigation of their own, while Trena Morreti, a journalist, is privately on her own case as well. In Hollywood, everyone is now a suspect. Blacklist is filled with mystery and teen drama which is perfect for anyone who is into cliché stories with a twist! I give this book a 3.5/5 star rating. I recommend this book for ages 13 and up.

Blacklist was a YA mystery novel that didn’t fail to bring equal amounts of passion, suspense and a wide range of characters to a modern day, LA platform. The second book of an installment known as “Beautiful Idols”, Blacklist showcases the lives of Layla, Tommy, and Aster after all three become suspects in the murder of A-list celebrity, Madison Brooks. Although YA dystopian mystery has become one of my new favourite genres, I appreciated that the author remained in present day society to increase the adaptability of this book. Aster has been arrested, Tommy has lost hope and is attempting to become an aspiring musician, and Layla is doing all she can to plead Aster as not guilty. But when Layla begins to receive disturbing letters, she feels watched and rounds up her old friends to discover once and for all what happened to Madison Brooks. Although this plotline had a lot of potential, I believe a lot of it was lost in the writing style and length of the book. Even towards the end I was confused out of my mind as to what exactly was happening. Blacklist was a good effort, but this is not a series I will continue to read, simply out of lack of interest. (Rating 2/5)
