Nicole Cutty and Megan McDonald are both high school seniors in the small town of Emerson Bay, North Carolina. When they disappear from a beach party one warm summer night, police launch a massive search. No clues are found, and hope is almost lost until Megan miraculously surfaces after escaping from a bunker deep in the woods. A year later, the book of her ordeal has turned Megan from local hero to national celebrity. It's a triumphant, inspiring story, except for one inconvenient detail: Nicole is still missing. Nicole's older sister Livia, a fellow in forensic pathology, expects that one day soon Nicole's body will be found, and it will be up to someone like Livia to analyze the evidence and finally determine her sister's fate. Instead, the first clue to Nicole's disappearance comes from another body that shows up in Livia's morgue--that of a young man connected to Nicole's past. Livia reaches out to Megan for help, hoping to learn more about the night the two were taken. Other girls have gone missing too, and Livia is increasingly certain the cases are connected. But Megan knows more than she revealed in her blockbuster book. Flashes of memory are coming together, pointing to something darker and more monstrous than her chilling memoir describes. And the deeper she and Livia dig, the more they realize that sometimes true terror lies in finding exactly what you've been looking for.

I am glad I discovered Charlie Donlea. Just finished reading "the girl who was taken" great plot,
very original. It kept me riveted; I could not put the book down. Turns and twists, kept me turning pages. Waiting what else the author was going to throw at me. I am looking forward to reading another one of his books.

This is the second book that I read by this author. His first book Summit Lake was excellent, this book was just as great. Can't wait to read his third book.

This is a really good mystery - filled with many twists and turns that keep you interested in the story and the characters. I have now read all three of his books and they are all smart and well written and keep the reader turning pages and waiting for the final twist to end the story. Highly recommend this author and can't wait now until his next book.

A friend shared a copy of Summit Lake by Charlie Donlea with me, and I really enjoyed this new author. I found The Girl Who Was Taken equally fascinating. I really delighted in the author's ability to keep you intrigued from one short chapter to the next with a new twist and turn. And a conclusion I never saw coming. If you are looking for an author who will inform and interest you through every page, I highly recommend his two books, and look forward with anticipation for more to come.

I really enjoyed this book. This book, The Girl who was Taken, is full of twist and turns and the author's detail was excellent and left me wanting more. This novel is the first I have read by this author. Charlie Donlea, is a masterful storyteller and has found his niche in fiction. The ending was a total surprise, a well designed and thoughtful work of art. I have just requested and put on Hold, Donlea's first book, Summit Lake. Can't wait! Look forward to more books by this author.
