You come home after a long day at work, excited to have dinner with your beautiful wife. But when you walk through the door, you quickly realize that she's not there. In the kitchen, there is a pot on the stove, and vegetables on the counter, abandoned. Her cellphone and her purse are still in the house, in the bedroom, exactly where she keeps them. It looks like she's left in a blind panic. You fear the worst, so you call her friends to see if they know where she is. Then you call the police. The police tell you that your wife's been in an accident. They found her in the worst part of town, after she lost control of the car while speeding through the streets. But why would she go to that neighbourhood? And why was she driving so fast? Was she running toward something? Or away from something? The police think your wife was up to no good. You refuse to believe it, at first. Then, as the stories and facts don't line up, and your wife can't remember what happened that evening, you start to wonder. You've been married for two years and you thought you knew her better than anyone else in the world... but maybe you don't.

this book was OK. Does not hold a candle to the Couple Next Door. The writing was okay. It wasn't a bad book but it wasn't great either. Did not feel invested into any character. Read to the end but wouldve been just as satisfied googling the ending.

I liked the way the suspense continued to build. This made me eager to come back to find out what happened next. The ending was satisfying. The ending had a hitchcockian feel to it. I continue to roll my eyes at Jim.

Well written for the genre, but short on plot and twists. Personally enjoyed Shari's debut novel more. Nonetheless, entertaining and worth your time.

Well this was a bit of a mess, I don't know if I really liked any of the characters... that said I did enjoy the little twist and the unreliable narrators. It was a pretty quick read for me and it certainly kept me going until the end.

Not too terrible, I guess....

You'll never see the ending coming!! Lots of suspense and after reading this good luck sleeping at night. Read the couple next door and an unwanted guest by the same author. Will keep you up at night. Lots of suspense!!

I LOVED her first book, The Couple Next Door, so I thought I'd give this one a read. The writing wasn't the greatest, but it had a really great story I think. I would recommend this book if you're looking for a good thriller

The writing was not compelling for me. The story seemed predicable and honestly, I couldn't read the whole thing. Boring and poorly written in my opinion.

I would recommend her first book, The Couple Next Door over this one. I will be reading An Unwanted Guest when my hold is ready as well. This book had a lot of 'telling' versus 'showing' and that can bog down a story. I would also have preferred to read this story from the first (multiple) person narrative and not third person. It can be difficult when a breakthrough author has such success with the first book and not so much the second. Hopefully the third book of hers will bring back the excitement that the Couple Next Door did for me.

She’s remarkably composed. It’s almost as if he’s watching someone else, an actor, playing his wife.

Suspicion is an insidious thing; doubts have started creeping in, things that he’d previously been able to ignore.
