Laura Ingalls Wilder's beloved Little House series is a classic coming-of-age story based on Wilder's own family and the pioneer spirit of the time. Deeply rooted in the natural world, Wilder describes the plants, animals, and landscapes in such detail, they are practically their own characters. This book explores Wilder's deep relationship with the landscape. Follow the Wilder's wagon trail starting in the Wisconsin setting of Little House in the Big Woods, through the Dakotas, and finally to Missouri. You'll learn details about Wilder's life and inspirations, discover how to visit the real places today, and even learn to grow the plants and vegetables featured in the series.

Beautiful book, dreamy photos that transported me into another world. A life of hardship, but also of much beauty and grace.

For Little House Lovers, Marta McDowell travels the same journeys the Ingalls and Wilders took as pioneers. Her book is very well researched. I loved the actual handbills, catalogues, newspaper articles and photos from the time. The pictures of the real Laura and Almanzo Wilder were surprising. They did not look like television's Caroline and Charles.
McDowell sweetly matches the text with pictures from the books.
You can even plant the same flowers Ma, Laura and her daughter, Rose did.

For those who loved this journey. The books or the TV series. Or both.

This is a nice companion piece to Laura Ingalls Wilder's "Little House" series. It does a nice job of describing the various places her family lived and the flora of each locality. Like "Pioneer Girl," a complementary resource for any Wilder fans.
