Millie Michalchuk has gone to fat camp every year since she was a little girl. Not this year. This year she has new plans to chase her secret dream of being a newscaster -- and to kiss the boy she's crushing on. Callie Reyes is the pretty girl who is next in line for dance team captain and has the popular boyfriend. But when it comes to other girls, she's more frenemy than friend. When circumstances bring the girls together over the course of a semester, they surprise everyone (especially themselves) by realizing that they might have more in common than they ever imagined.

A down-to-earth story about two unlikely friends (told in their alternating points-of-view), the power of friendship among girls, and becoming who you want to be and not just who you think you should be. I loved this companion to 'Dumplin' almost as much as the original!

Murphy's sequel to Dumplin' will delight existing and new fans alike. While aimed at young adults, the friendship of Millie Michalchuk, who feels like an outsider, and Callie Reyes, who suddenly finds herself on the outside for the first time, rings familiar and true to readers of all ages. These two teens appear to have nothing in common on the outside, but their shared determination to reach their goals brings them together with lots of humor and smiles.

I loved Dumplin' and was thrilled to get a sneak peek at the second book in the series. Millie was my girl in this one. Having been an overweight teenager myself and a crafter--I could really relate to her and the shy boy thing. Callie not so much. There are some great friend moments in this book and encouragement for teens struggling with body image, bad friends and more. Also loved the positive parent/child relationships portrayed in this book. I just missed Willowdean so much. It looks like I will just have to read Dumplin' #1 to get my Willowdean/Dolly fix.
