Her crush, the dreamy Diving Pirate Nick, already has a girlfriend, who is literally the Princess of the park. Her best friend Seeley, the carousel operator, isn't interested in Lou's attempts to set her up with the perfect girl, or in Lou's scheme to get close to Nick. And it turns out that Magic Castle Playland will be closing--forever--when summer ends. Hot Dog Girl is about Elouise, a girl who works as a hot dog at the Magic Castle Playland amusement park during the summer. But this year, Elouise is determined to have the best summer of her life by winning her crush’s heart with the help of her best friend Seeley. Sadly, all her schemes seem to backfire, and the universe is just not on board with her plans. Her crush, Nick, already has a girlfriend. Seeley doesn’t want to help with her crazy ideas. Worst of all, Magic Castle Playland is going to shut down! I don’t think I’ve seen or read anything like this before, so it made for a new and different read!

The book has all the funny fails and awkward situations that Elouise goes through, which made it amusing for me. I think if someone is looking for a fun read, this light-hearted book will help get their mind off of other things. However, I wouldn’t recommend it for someone who is looking for a high-quality read because I didn’t like how frankly the book was written. It simply stated the facts alongside the thoughts of Elouise, very much like a diary. I felt it could’ve been a more engrossing read if it had deeper thoughts and feelings of the characters. I didn’t find any striking quotes, or moments that made me stop reading to think about the book more deeply. Also, I felt the ending kind of dragged, so I would only give it 3/5 stars.

Hot Dog Girl is a pretty remarkable book. I found the the first 10 pages set the mood for the whole book. I’m not sure if it’s a good thing or bad, but it is something to note. The book starts off with our main character, Elouise Parker also known as Lou. She is a schemer that sometimes doesn’t think her plans through. But with the assistance of her best friend Seeley, she will try to win the heart of Nick, a dreamy diving pirate at the park she works at. But of course he has a girlfriend named Jessa, who seems to be perfect in everyway she’s not. To top it all off, the park will be closing too!. Will Lou be able to charm her pirate and save the park? So for me, this book wasn’t one of my favorites. I feel like it mostly was because of Lou’s personality. I really couldn’t get behind any of her actions solely because of the way she acts. To be completely honest it was frustrating to read, and I almost stopped multiply times. This book definitely was not for me, but I do believe that every book deserves a second chance. Just not from me, but maybe it could be you? - 3.5/5 stars. Maade, SAPL Read It & Review Contributor

The perfect fluffy summer teen read.

It's a fun read with LGBTQ+ characters, although I found Lou to be a bit slow in her revelations during the story but it was spot on in how an amusement park runs

A little romance, a little scheming, and a lot of fun! I finished this book in one day because it was so relatable. If you are feeling awkward then this is a great book to make you feel that you are not alone.

A perfect summer read, especially for someone who lives steps from an amusement park (Yo!). A lot of angst, but you get where it's coming from, and despite any flaws the characters are quite likeable. I polished this one off pretty quick, and that fact is pretty high praise from me.

A great summer read that's worth staying up late at night to finish. Great characters, lots of funny and sad moments and just the right amount of awkwardness and honesty. And LGBT+ characters!

A Must-Read Young Adult pick. A coming-of-age romance starring a princess, a pirate, a hot dog, and a carousel operator who find love — and themselves — in unexpected people and unforgettable places.
