Written in 1921, We is set in the One State, where all live for the collective good and individual freedom does not exist. The novel takes the form of the diary of mathematician D-503, who, to his shock, experiences the most disruptive emotion imaginable: love.

We is an early 20th century dystopian novel written during the turbulence of early Soviet life. It reads like a dream with a fixation on the perfection of mathematics. The themes are fairly typical, especially the notions of love, deceit, sex, power, and rebellion. I found it easy to rush through some parts as the prose isn't the strongest (a symptom of the translation from Russian to English, perhaps).
