Replete with color photographs, drawings, and maps of Viking sites, artifacts, and landscapes, this book celebrates and explores the Viking saga from the combined perspectives of history, archaeology, oral tradition, literature, and natural science. The book's contributors chart the spread of marauders and traders in Europe as well as the expansion of farmers and explorers throughout the North Atlantic and into the New World. They show that Norse contacts with Native American groups were more extensive than has previously been believed, but that the outnumbered Europeans never established more than temporary settlements in North America.

Very good book with lots of information on the Vikings; Their history, combat tactics, religious beliefs, daily lives, hobbies and art and other aspects of their culture. Great for those studying the vikings/norse people, and also a very good resource for anyone into re-enactment, living history and/or recreation (and also for anyone simply interested in the topic).

The book contains a lot of colour images, showing many artifacts discovered over time, maps, old paintings, images of pages from medieval books and of medieval illumination related to the subject.
The book also goes into relatively decent detail all the way up to how the vikings are viewed in the modern day, and how their history has affected tourism in various European countries (and Canada, as well). In later chapters, one can find areas of the book discussing reenactment, museums and living history, as well.

In short: A high quality book with a very wide range of information pertaining to the vikings. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in the topic.
