After the death of his Irish wife, Mary, in childbirth, Phineas Finn resumes his political career in the House of Commons in London, though with considerably less zest than previously. Over time, he remarries, survives an attempt on his life, and is acquitted of the murder of a rival politician, of which he had been falsely accused. Having gained wisdom and maturity, he leaves political life. First published in 1874. Sequel to "The Eustace diamonds" (DC14793). (The Palliser novels ; 4).
