The eighth installment in the universally beloved, internationally bestselling series. In the life of Mma Ramotswe - a woman duly proud of her fine traditional build - there is rarely a dull moment, and in her newest round of adventures, challenges and intrigues, the same certainly holds true. But one thing above all else is keeping her occupied - her estimable husband, Mr. J.L.B. Matekoni. He has been hinting for some time now that he intends to do something special for their adopted daughter, Motholeli, and it seems that the time for this good deed has come. Of course, good deed or not, his plan is bound to hit some snags. And that's when he will undoubtedly consider himself doubly - perhaps even triply - lucky to be married to the ever-resourceful, ever-understanding Precious Ramotswe.

Every time I open a No.1 book, I am captured by the down-to-earth portrayal of humanity in all its rough-hewn glory. The ups and downs of life are all captured wonderfully in McCall Smith's series. In this entry, Mma Romatswe and Mma Makutsi have a disagreement that will change the fate of the agency. Meanwhile, Mr. J.L.B Matekoni tries his hand at being a detective, and Charlie the apprentice launches a new enterprise inspired by the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency. Filled with heart and humor, this is another winning piece of fiction by McCall Smith.

While the eighth installment in the series seems to be more of the same, I have to admit that I love the generous helping. All the characters are back and in new predicaments that challenge their world in ways that they need to seek the wisdom of each other in order to deal with the problems that make up their work. And maybe life would be more exciting for Mma Makutsi or Charlie if they worked some place else, they come back to the place they can call home. And when Mr. J. L. B. Matekoni finds himself up to his neck in detecting, it is his charming wife that leads him to the truth. All in all, a very satisfying helping but I can always use more!
