Murder at the Vicarage marks the debut of Agatha Christie's unflappable and much beloved female detective, Miss Jane Marple. With her gift for sniffing out the malevolent side of human nature, Miss Marple is led on her first case to a crime scene at the local vicarage. Colonel Protheroe, the magistrate whom everyone in town hates, has been shot through the head. No one heard the shot. There are no leads. Yet, everyone surrounding the vicarage seems to have a reason to want the Colonel dead. It is a race against the clock as Miss Marple sets out on the twisted trail of the mysterious killer without so much as a bit of help from the local police.

I think this is the first Miss Marple mystery. I wish she was not so often described as helpless or old when she obviously is smarter than many of the other residents. I read this many years ago and didn't remember the ending so I enjoyed reading it again... a classic example of Christie's plot and psychological twisting.

This is the first Christie novel to feature Miss Marple, a lovely old women who has insight into the character of those around her and uses it to solve murders. The novel was written in 1930.

Typical to Agatha Christie, there isn't a lot of action, and the first mention of the murder is half-way through the book. Good for a long read.

I think this was a fantastic book. Some of the English is old fashioned, which make some parts hard to understand.Other than that this book was a terrific, thrilling mystery.
