A carefully unfolded story of what turns out out to be lost love and obedience. The reading was good but not great (it is awkward to hear conversations with one voice speaking all of the characters' parts), and it was clear, with emphases and pauses giving an added sense to the narrative. I was annoyed by the authorial intrusions, which were unnecessary, but then it was one of James' earlier works.
