The point of this film is to do one thing & one thing only: watch Joan Crawford be beautiful & sad. Seriously this film is just for her & I savored every moment the camera lingered on her emotional face. The film also highlighted the power music & musician can have over people. But mainly this movie is a Crawford vehicle for the fan that could stare at her at her most lovely phase in life.

Joan Crawford, an heiress, has an eye on a budding violinist, who outstrips her in his existential philosophy, she doesn't measure up to his music, his altar, Joan Crawford is ever gloriously Joan Crawford, making minced meat out of everyone around her, despite her fate, apart from the extended pieces of often transcribed Classical music she's the only thing to watch in this implausible tearjerker

La Traviata meets the Lower East Side. Starring Garfield, Crawford, cocktails, and more shoulder pads than you will readily believe. BONUS: the inappropriate comedy stylings of Oscar Levant. Drink! When disapproving Mama or bun-wearing girlfriend sense danger to their boy. This happens roughly 27 times, so keep those sips small.
