In King of California, Miranda, played by Evan Rachel Wood, has been on her own most of her life. Abandoned by her mother and living without her schizophrenic father whom is residing in a mental institution, she dropped out of high school and started working at McDonalds to support herself. When her father, Charlie, is released, the world she has made for herself is flipped upside down — especially when Charlie starts talking about the lost treasure of Spanish explorer Father Juan Florismarte! With a desk full of treasure hunting books and a metal detector, he comes to believe the treasure is buried underneath the local Costco. Although Miranda is unconvinced of his endeavor she finds herself joining in on the hunt and discovers some dreams are worth trying to make come true.

Suprisingly good. Very much about a journey if you like that type of story.

A feeble attempt to create some sort of dark comedy involving a mentally impaired father and his teenage daughter who go on a treasure hunt for a cache of 17th Century Spanish doubloons in a sewer underneath a COSTCO. It's difficult to understand why Michael Douglas would ever get involved in such a mediocre script.

A well acted and unique, although not particularly interesting to me, film about a complicated father daughter relationship. Good pacing and good non standard ending. Still, not my kind of movie. A few mildly funny parts. Some not so engaging dramatic moments.

it is ok but a kind of waste of talent of the actor

Fair - King of California (2007) 93 min. starring Michael Douglas and Evan Rachel Wood. Douglas is as zany as ever in this picture. Evan Rachel plays his daughter, who is the "adult" in the relationship. Douglas looks for a famed lost treasure hidden somewhere in California. Though the relationship aspect is intriguing and fun to watch, the story itself in mired in unbelievable situations that leaves the viewer with a bad taste in one's mouth. Credibility is it's bane. Be warned about this one.
