Absolutely masterful retelling of Shakespeare play. Spare, bleak, but wonderfully acted with brilliant lean score by Shostakovich.

This is the immortal version of Lear with Orson Welles. Nobody performed Shakespeare as memorably as Welles, in my view.

Its basically created by the Soviet All-Star team of the arts. Its my favorite Lear -- even counting Kurosawa's Ran.
