The Monterey Pop Festival took place June 16-18, 1967 in Monterey, Calif. at the height of the Summer of Love. It ushered in a new era of rock and roll and launched the careers of Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and Otis Redding, among others. With his characteristic vérité style, D.A. Pennebaker captured it all, from Pete Townshend destroying his guitar to Jimi Hendrix burning his.

The music and energy is amazing in this remastered version. Blown away by the voice of Mama Cass, Janis Joplin, Eric Burdon. Ravi Shankar's music- better than any drug!

Sure the music was rad, but if you are a photographer you have to have a look at the photo essay extras by Elaine Mayes.
