If this film had skipped the mushy-headed Romeo & Juliet scenario and stuck to the facts it might be worth something. The Mormon's "Ranchero" seems a bit grandiose considering that they had only arrived in the St. George area in 1854 in order to subdue the local indigenous population.
This could have been a masterpiece if it was an analogy to the famous "Central African Expedition" of 1899 where the French foreign legion under the leadership of Paul Voulet and Julien Chanoine massacred everything that moved from Dakar to Fort Lamy.
Jon Voight and Terence Stamp must have been on hard times when this film was made. Hard to see how any worthwhile actor would put their name on this.

Watchable film, but if you're expecting a blockbuster you're in for a letdown.
This is basically a made for tv movie in film version. Jon Voight is impenetrable as the Bishop, Father and Patriarch of a FLDS family involved in spearheading the Mountain Meadows Massacre of September 11, 1857. The hypocrisy of murder in the name of religion the central theme. Certainly not for family viewing.
