I picked up this book because I adore this movie so much. And the book did not disappoint. It is, indeed, different than the movie however, the tone and the delightfulness are the same. The characters make me happy and the love story is simple yet sweet. And it is just as much about friendship love, romantic love and self-love as anything I've ever read. Very good, enjoyable, sweet read.

Thoroughly delightful and escapist, even though it's so old. What fun!

I enjoyed the film so much I tracked down the book on which it was based and was so glad I did. The book is a whimsical delight.

I tracked down this book because I thoroughly enjoyed the Frances McDormand film. The book is even more delightful. It is lovely fluff with no higher meaning; just a pleasant visit with very nice people. Miss Pettigrew deserved her happy ending.

A fun, old-fashioned read. One of those books you can enjoy without having to think too hard! The illustrations are charming as well.

This is a cute, light read. All anyone needs is an outsider to enlighten them and show them the way while helping themselves along too. We can learn something from others.

Mostly, "day" novels are depressing ie. Mrs Dalloway. After watching the hours, a friend reccomended this book. I must admit, it was just as rewarding as Reading Mrs Dalloway, but it was funnier.

What an absolutely delightful read! It's marvelously refreshing to have a proper lady do properly unladylike actions and still remain proper! Despite risqué scenes, shocking behaviours and an imbroglio of relationships, this book remains sweet, moving and inspiring. We can all hope to be as straightforward and modest as Miss Pettigrew, to seize the day with her composure and truthfulness and to be rewarded for fairness of mind with a touch of apropos and humour. The book maintains its freshness and lightness throughout and, despite the happy ending, only hints at the fairy tale that may lie ahead - no false promises or hasty conclusions there! The illustrations are a lovely touch - why shouldn't adults enjoy a picture book? Enchanting and heartwarming.

Ok for a quick, fluffy, little read.

When the film version of Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day was released in 2008 and a new edition of the book was printed, one critic wrote, ?Why has it taken more than half a century for this wonderful flight of humor to be rediscovered?? That critic had a point?Winifred Watson?s captivating tale of how the middle-aged, out-of-touch, ex-governess Miss Pettigrew spends a glamour-filled day with the fetching but flighty nightclub singer Delysia La Fosse is a story most of us have never heard. Pre-World War II London is full of flash and glitter, Delysia?s many entanglements with men are dizzying, and we enjoy the surprises, triumphs, and revelations of the day right along with the wonder-filled Miss Pettigrew. The movie that put this little book back on the map is a fine adaptation starring Frances McDormand as Miss Pettigrew and Amy Adams as Delysia. Some of the action in the book is toned down for the film (references to drug use, such as they are, are deleted) and the romance is played up, but both the film and book will brighten up any day.
