Tom's life is not what it once was. His marriage is on the rocks and his writing career has stalled. Then his best friend, Neil, returns from teaching neurology in California. But all is not what it seems--Neil has been working for the U.S. government cracking the minds of suspected terrorists and has disappeared, leaving behind evidence that he has been employing his unique skills on civilians. And it's only when Neil gets closer to his ultimate target--Tom--that the full horror of his plan is revealed.

This book has many perturbing scenes. But, even so the book is captivating.
I’m wondering, if whatever is described in book it’s what is waiting us in the future?
The ending is terrible, leaves a feeling of hopelessness because there is a tragedy that affects a child.
Somehow this book reminded me of movie Seven.

I'm not entirely sure one could call this an "enjoyable" book, as it has an extremely depressing theme; however, it's presented extremely well.

A very interesting concept that has a lot of potential to be a good read. However, it's easy to get bogged down by the extremely slow pace and attention to irrelevant details.
