Although the mythology was well weaved into a modern setting, I found the writing to clean and simple. I didn't feel strong emotion in the words, even though I might empathisize with a character going through what Remy did. I felt the subject could've been more deeply explored, rather than Remy always seeming to come out fine with the right answers, escpecially how he dealt with his dying wife and conflict between his human and angelic natures. The book didn't really draw me in. That said, I liked the characters, the angels all swore, and the plot was good, if short.

It seems to be well written, but I just couldn't get into the christian mythology and gave up after a few chapter.

It will probably appeal to actual christians!

Amazing! I couldn't put it down. If you like fantasy, this is a really great book. Great to take to the beach. I also loved the love story between Remy & Madeline. I loved all the characters. I've read until Book 3 and will buy all of them as I'd like to come back to these characters and re-read them later on. Better than The Fallen series.

The best part of the whole book was Remy's interactions with his dog Marlowe. Being an angel, Remy can understand all beasts, and so we hear Marlowe's thoughts through Remy. The dog is charming in the way very small children are. "Apple? Marlowe apple now? Love Remy. Park? Park now? Eat. Good." Unfortunately, Marlowe was the only character I liked, and having a fondness for the dog isn't enough to get me to continue on in the series.
