In the glamorous and ego-driven world of advertising, everyone is selling something and nothing is ever what it seems. Set in 1960 New York, this series reveals the lives of the ruthlessly competitive men and women of Madison Avenue's "Golden Age," where key players make an art of the sell while their private world gets sold. And no one plays the game better than Don Draper, the biggest ad man--and ladies' man--in the business.

Brilliant in its honesty about addiction (alchohol/nicotine) and the violence towards women/children. John Bradshaw (Bradshaw on: The Family) would have a field day on this. End result of the 60's? On average, one mass shooting in the USA each day. We are so screwed.

One of the greatest TV series ever, portraying life in the 1960s, when men were men and women were still women.

Several reasons why this series is completely revolting to me. First, the ubiquitous cigarette smoking. For some evil reason Hollywood loves the cigarette and its concomitant smoke. Who cares about its nasty effect: cancer. This alone makes this vapid series unwatchable. The second reason is this show's misogynistic perspective where all men wear power suits while sexually abusing their power and the women dressed and play as sex objects without any power. It's insulting and abusive to both genders. But of course this is a microcosm of Hollywood itself i.e. Harvey Weinstein. But this show just shallowly panders this morass of Weinstein amoral sexual philosophy. Mad Men is utterly repulsive.

Couldn't stand the sexism.

A really well-made, well-acted drama that offers fascinating look at the glamorous world of advertising in 1960s New York. As I watched, I was fascinated by how much has changed and how much has stayed the same since in the past 60 years. The costumes, props (so many cigarettes!), and acting were all obviously done with great care for evoking the time period faithfully, and I am looking forward to season 2.

Season 1 is a little slow but it piqued my interest nonetheless, Season two however gets much more interesting. All in all it's a pretty good series.

LOVE IT! I have seen the previews on TV, but it never made me want to watch it. I have seen bits of it on TV but couldn't get into it as i had no clue what it was all about or what was going on. So i rented it and now OMG! I MUST watch Season 2 + it is the best series ever!
My new favorite. I watched season 1 (4 cd's) in a week.

The only bad things about Madmen is they smoke too many cigs and cheat on their spouses.

A period piece that initially reeled me in because of its lack of political correctness (a portrayal of the times) which, for me, evolved into a well acted drama about people who have more to them than initially meets the eye.

Very-well made, time-period classic! The immorality of the men made me cringe, though!

This is a terrific series. It is funny to see all the smoking and drinking that went on at work in the 1960's. Love all the characters and can't wait to see Season 2
