Bizenghast is a graphic novel series Written and illustrated by M. Alice LeGrow. This series is more character based than action based, allowing for an extremely well developed cast of characters. The plot is that our main heroine, Dinah, is bound to an old mausoleum and must appease the tortured spirits who live there. These spirits live in there own little worlds and they need to be saved in order to pass on. For every ten ghosts she appeases, Dinah unlocks a tower guard to help her. However, the tower guards we see most are Edaniel and Edrear. This is much like a video game. Like a video game, each ghost gets more and more difficult to defeat. She isn't alone on this adventure. Her best and only friend Vincent is there to help her each and every step of the way. In fact, Vincent is going with Dinah out of his own free will and the desire to assist his friend. Because of this, Dinah and Vincent must return to the mausoleum every night to fulfill Dinah's contract. One has to give credit to the creator! She knows how to really make her cute but creepy art style and the dialog work together so well that you can really and truly feel every emotion the characters are going through. This book series will make you laugh, cringe, and cry with each and every page. I encourage you to pick up a copy of Bizenghast today and begin your twisted roller coaster ride into a weird and wonderful world.
