I didn't like this book, I felt unpleasantly deceived by the author.

The Monsters of Templeton were neurotic and unlikable. Lauren Groff is a good writer but she seems to be very impressed with how clever she thinks she is. I finished the book because of the good quality writing, but I was sorry I spent time on it.

This novel is an archaeological dig into a family’s past, a portrait of a town, a web of connections that includes a sea monster (yep).

I loved the writing - Groff delves into journals and letters and other primary documents from her fictional town's forebears, and does so masterfully.

I loved this book ! Without question , it reminded me of " Sacre Bleu " the same mix of historical fiction , weirdness , and charm ....

This is another book which I'll read more than once.

I loved the author's writing style but this book was too gimmicky for me. I wanted Dandelion Wine and instead it felt more like Emily Giffin on halucinogens. If she'd written it straightforwardly, I think I would have liked it better.
