This was great for my 9 year old. It was a read aloud, but he could have read it. Funny, with great plot twists. It helped that he is very interested in the Arthurian legends.

All of Morris' Arthurian books are full of gentle humor and positive characterization. This is one of a new line suitable for elementary readers (7-10 where his longer ones are more aimed at 10-14). The hero Sir Givret the Short earns his spurs with his cleverness and wisdom rather than with strength of arms. Although brief, this adult laughed and enjoyed the tale.
