Although this doesn't really cover the entire region of the Balkans (that means Greece, Bulgaria, the former Yugoslavia, Albania and who knows what countries are included here), this is a great piece of travelogue and comprises only four of the new countries of the former Yugoslovia - Kosovo, Serbia, Bosnia and Montenegro. The places covered were really well chosen - Mostar and even the Serbian capital, Beograd! I was expecting a greater coverage for Montenegro with its beautiful coastline but I was a little disappointed there. Maybe this is not a typical LP area considering it's more upscale..I am just guessing though. The reporter, Zay Harding is a little uptight here...he doesn't have the innate exuberance of the former reporters (their names I don't seem to remember) but I guess he's new. He has a website and surprisingly, he seemed to have outgrown that and I hope to see him more in GlobeTrekker/Lonely Planet future editions. BTW, he's absolutely right about Bosnia as being one of the most beautiful countries of Europe and I can't wait to be there before the whole world - those hordes of backpackers - have tread on its path!
