Fun, but dated - the stories aren't timeless. Women's opportunities have certainly, gladly, broadened in the decades since. I appreciate du Maurier and I loved Rebecca and Frenchman's Creek. But these stories, while entertaining, keep the reader standing outside, with du Maurier, always very conscious that the author is manipulating the scene.
