Kind of a strange movie--and perhaps that's its charm. Colossal is one of those films that gets better after you've had a chance to digest it for a while. Anne Hathaway is the real attraction: as in Rachel Getting Married, this is a jarring role which plays against how we receive her persona in films like The Princess Diaries and even The Intern. Fortunately her star power diverts our attention away from a really tenuous plot device that attempts to tie this all together. The final two scenes in Seoul--the monster standoff and the empty bar--are worth sitting through the whole film to fully enjoy.
