Hot Dog Girl is about Elouise, a girl who works as a hot dog at the Magic Castle Playland amusement park during the summer. But this year, Elouise is determined to have the best summer of her life by winning her crush’s heart with the help of her best friend Seeley. Sadly, all her schemes seem to backfire, and the universe is just not on board with her plans. Her crush, Nick, already has a girlfriend. Seeley doesn’t want to help with her crazy ideas. Worst of all, Magic Castle Playland is going to shut down! I don’t think I’ve seen or read anything like this before, so it made for a new and different read! The book has all the funny fails and awkward situations that Elouise goes through, which made it amusing for me. I think if someone is looking for a fun read, this light-hearted book will help get their mind off of other things. However, I wouldn’t recommend it for someone who is looking for a high-quality read because I didn’t like how frankly the book was written. It simply stated the facts alongside the thoughts of Elouise, very much like a diary. I felt it could’ve been a more engrossing read if it had deeper thoughts and feelings of the characters. I didn’t find any striking quotes, or moments that made me stop reading to think about the book more deeply. Also, I felt the ending kind of dragged, so I would only give it 3/5 stars.
