Colossal Peckinpah Western bloodbath set in 1913, that opens with children giggling as they watch scorpions getting devoured by fire ants -->!!!<-- Killer lineup (literally). A few of the anti-heroes: William Holden, the elusive big cheese of the Wells Fargo robbing Bunch, watching his way of life disappearing; Ernest B. (who just passed, R.I.P.) as his loyal sidekick; wildman Warren Oates, and his brother, Ben Johnson, whose main goal is to get their "bell rope pulled"... Pursued by the double-crossed and rehabilitated (?) ex partner in crime Robert Ryan, and his band of "egg suckin', chicken stealin', gutter trash" bounty hunters, which includes the likes of slimy, grimy Strother Martin. Exploding bridges. Awesome stuff. Everybody needs a bath, and a dentist. Generalissimo Gingivitis Mapaché and his federalés want hot artillery, and probably shouldn't be trusted, but they're promising dinero and bonita señoritas (a few of which are reasonably attractive Janice21383). The bonus features are priceless. I absolutely love this flick. FIVE STARS.
