On the fence. Got shifted to the bottom of my pile so many times because of other WOW books that took precedence. Points in favour: I like Victorian settings for historical novels. I like the Oxford setting in the academic sphere for the context. I like the rather bizarre events that set off the whole crisis. As with many things culturally British, you either like it or you don't. Points against: nothing about the style or the plot really stands out to make this unique or to qualify for a top 10 list. Nothing keeps you up late, waiting to see what will happen next. By next week, you won't remember anything outstanding about this book to share at your book club or with anyone asking what they should read next.
