As Russia descends into the chaos of revolution, Sophia and Nikolai grow close. Trapped on the opposite sides of the terrifying political conflict that engulfs the country, they fight against their feelings for each other and hide them from everyone they love. Then a number of high-ranking Bolsheviks are arrested for inciting an insurrection - Nikolai captured among them. Dmitry insists they leave at once for Sophia's own safety, but how can she abandon Nikolai when he needs her the most?
